About The Atrium Berea

Built in the early 1970s, Overport City underwent its first major refurbishment after more than 30 years in late 2013 which is the same time it was acquired by * Bentel Group. The much needed facelift also saw the name of the shopping Centre change from Overport City to The Atrium Berea.

The Atrium Berea’s refurbishment has seen the building transform into a bright, airy, secure and contemporary shopping destination that reflects the shopping, business and leisure needs of the upmarket consumers in its surrounding suburbs.

The Atrium is centrally located in a densely populated upmarket suburb of Essenwood, which is home to the most affluent residents on the Berea. It is also within easy reach of residents across a broad spectrum on the Berea and surrounding areas which include Overport, Morningside, Greyville and Glenwood which are known to boast many of the best private schools in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The 25,000sqm gla building comprises 18,000sqm of retail on three easily interlinked shopping levels and also offers approximately 7,000sqm of triple ‘A’ quality offices in a seven-floor office tower. Each retail level has its own parkade and the overall property boasts generous covered parking.

A design highlight of The Atrium Berea is the striking 17.8 metre high atrium at the heart of the shopping Centre, where natural light streams in, creating a refreshing and pleasant shopping experience which is the key feature that inspired the new name.

The shopping Centre is strong on everyday services, as it boasts nine full banking branches, which include FNB, ABSA, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Capitec, Mercantile Bank, State Bank of India, HBZ Bank and African Bank.

The centre also has cellular shops, a Post Office, medical facilities, travel agent, UK Visa Application Centre (on the 3rd floor of the Office Block) and photographic studio.
The Atrium Berea boasts a 4, 000sqm Checkers, a Dis-Chem and an upmarket Virgin Active. Its fashion mix includes Pep, Pick n Pay Clothing, Ackermans and Shoe City as well as several handpicked local boutiques. Spur, John Dory’s and Maxis round off its restaurant offering, with entertainment offered by Gold Circle Gaming.
The Atrium Berea’s prominent high-rise Office Block provides an excellent business address and following the refurbishment of these spaces too, office tenants and their visitors enjoy an attractive, modern working environment, with ample parking and excellent accessibility, including bus and taxi routes to the city centre.
